Intel desktop socket used by 12th, 13th, and 14th-generation Core processors. A shared socket is not automatic compatibility.

## What you need to know

LGA1700 is a socket, not a free upgrade pass.

12th through 14th-gen desktop Core parts use LGA1700. The board must list the SKU and the BIOS must be new enough. Memory generation is a board choice.

- **Same chip fits every LGA1700 board?**: No. Read the CPU list

  **DDR5 required?**: No. The board chooses DDR4 or DDR5

  **Cooler?**: LGA1700 needs a matching kit or bracket

## What LGA1700 is

LGA1700 (FCLGA1700) is the desktop land-grid-array socket Intel used for 12th, 13th, and 14th-generation Core processors. The cooler mounting changed from LGA1200.

## What it means on a PC

You can stay on the platform across those generations if the board vendor supports the newer SKU. Early 600-series boards often needed a BIOS update before 12th-gen posted, and later chips needed further revisions.

Buy the cooler bracket, read the memory list, and flash BIOS with a supported CPU if the vendor requires it.
