# armsvc.exe

Application Process: Adobe Inc.

Also called armsvc, adobearmservice, adobe acrobat update service

Adobe Inc., Application

Adobe Acrobat Update Service (AdobeARMservice). It is the Windows service that supports background Acrobat and Reader updates. It is not AdobeARM.exe, the updater UI/helper.

## What you need to know

ARMsvc is the Adobe update SERVICE, not AdobeARM.exe UI/helper.

armsvc.exe is Adobe Acrobat Update Service (AdobeARMservice). It stays resident so updates can apply without a full UAC dance every time. AdobeARM.exe is the helper that actually checks and shows updater UI. Ending the service does not close AcrobatNotificationClient.

- **Safe?**: Yes, from Adobe ARM service

**Same as AdobeARM.exe?**: No. This is the SERVICE

**Windows ARM?**: No. Adobe updater, not Windows-on-ARM

Feex says

If armsvc is in services.msc as Adobe Acrobat Update Service, I leave it if I still want Reader patches. I do not end AdobeARM.exe and call the service gone.

## What is armsvc.exe?

armsvc.exe is the Adobe update SERVICE, not AdobeARM.exe. Both often live in Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0. The service name is AdobeARMservice. This is not Windows on ARM.

## What does it do?

It hosts the Acrobat Update Service so ARM can apply patches. AdobeARM.exe is the helper. AcrobatNotificationClient.exe is toasts. AdobeCollabSync.exe is review sync.

## Why is it running?

Acrobat or Reader installed the ARM service. It can run at boot. A PC with no Adobe PDF product should not keep a Microsoft copy of this name.

## Is it safe?

Usually safe when Adobe signed

An Adobe-signed armsvc under ARM\1.0 is the update service. armsvc.exe in Temp is not. This is still not AdobeARM.exe.

A legitimate copy normally runs from:

`C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\armsvc.exe`

- Service: Adobe Acrobat Update Service (AdobeARMservice)
- Helper UI: AdobeARM.exe in the same folder
- Not Windows-on-ARM and not AcrobatNotificationClient

## Can I end it?

Background Acrobat updates pause

Ending armsvc.exe stops the update service until Windows starts it again. AdobeARM.exe may still be launched by a task. Notifications are a different exe.

## Can I remove it?

Uninstall Acrobat or Reader

Uninstall the Adobe PDF product. Disabling only AdobeARM.exe leaves the service. Do not delete System32 files. This is not a Windows ARM binary.

## Should it start with Windows?

AdobeARMservice starts as a Windows service. AdobeARM.exe is a helper the service or a scheduled task can start.

## Normal resource behavior

These are contextual labels, not universal averages.

- **CPU**: Idle until an update pass

  **Memory**: Small as a service

**Disk**: Follows AdobeARM when a patch writes

  **Network**: Adobe update check

## Common problems

### Name looks like Windows ARM

It is Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager service. Windows-on-ARM is the OS. Different worlds.

### People disable AdobeARM.exe and wonder why the service returns

The service is armsvc.exe. The helper is AdobeARM.exe. Two files, one folder.

## Troubleshooting

Diagnose before you change anything destructive.

### services.msc > Adobe Acrobat Update Service

That maps to armsvc.exe. AdobeARM.exe will not appear as this service image.

### Repair or uninstall Acrobat / Reader if ARM is broken

Adobe documents updater repair with the product. Do not copy armsvc.exe from a forum. Notification client is unrelated.
