# RtkAudUService64.exe

Application Process: Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

Also called rtkauduservice64, realtek audio service, realtek hd audio universal service

Realtek Semiconductor Corp., Application

Realtek HD Audio Universal Service. It is the vendor audio helper. It is not audiodg.exe, which is the Windows audio engine graph.

## What you need to know

Realtek audio service, not audiodg.exe (Windows audio graph).

RtkAudUService64.exe is Realtek's HD Audio Universal Service. audiodg.exe is Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation. Ending the Realtek service does not replace the Windows mixer. Ending audiodg mutes every app.

- **Safe?**: Yes, with Realtek audio

**Same as audiodg?**: No. audiodg is the Windows graph

**Can I end it?**: Realtek extras can drop

Feex says

If RtkAudUService64 is busy after I plugged in a headset, I update the Realtek package. I do not end audiodg first to "fix Realtek."

## What is RtkAudUService64.exe?

RtkAudUService64.exe is the Realtek HD Audio Universal Service, not audiodg.exe. Realtek ships it with the audio driver. Windows still mixes in audiodg.exe.

## What does it do?

It hosts Realtek enhancements, jack detection, and vendor UI hooks. It does not isolate app audio the way audiodg.exe does.

## Why is it running?

The PC has a Realtek codec and the Realtek package. A USB headset with its own driver may not need this service. A PC with only NVIDIA HDMI audio may still show it if the Realtek device exists.

## Is it safe?

Usually safe when Realtek signed

A Realtek-signed service under DriverStore or Program Files\Realtek is the helper. RtkAudUService64.exe in Temp is not. This is still not audiodg.

A legitimate copy normally runs from:

`C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\realtekservice.inf_amd64_*\RtkAudUService64.exe`

- Also seen under Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA
- Publisher should be Realtek
- Windows graph is System32\audiodg.exe

## Can I end it?

Realtek extras can stop

Ending RtkAudUService64.exe can drop jack sense or the Realtek tray. Windows Audio can keep running in audiodg.exe. Do not end audiodg to stop Realtek.

## Can I remove it?

Uninstall the Realtek audio package

Use Device Manager or the PC vendor's audio installer. Do not delete audiodg.exe to remove Realtek.

## Should it start with Windows?

The Realtek audio service starts it. It is not a Startup Apps checkbox next to Spotify.

## Normal resource behavior

These are contextual labels, not universal averages.

- **CPU**: Should be low. A spike is often a bad Realtek build

  **Memory**: Small

  **Disk**: Low

**Network**: None for local analog jacks

## Common problems

### People mute the PC by ending audiodg

Wrong process. audiodg is the Windows graph. This service is Realtek-only extras.

### High CPU after a Windows update

Reinstall the Realtek package from the PC vendor or Realtek. Do not replace audiodg.exe.

## Troubleshooting

Diagnose before you change anything destructive.

### Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers
