System Protection tab of System Properties. It is the restore-point UI. It is not the Settings home (SystemSettings.exe).

This is System Protection, not SystemSettings home.

SystemPropertiesProtection.exe opens the System Protection page used for restore points. SystemSettings.exe is the Settings app. Ending this host closes the classic tab, not Settings.

- **Safe?**: Yes, in System32

**Is it Settings?**: No. Settings is SystemSettings.exe

**Should I end it?**: The System Protection tab closes

Feex says

If I am creating a restore point and this name is busy, I let the snapshot finish. I do not end SystemSettings thinking I closed System Protection.

## What is SystemPropertiesProtection.exe?

SystemPropertiesProtection.exe is System Protection, not SystemSettings home. It is the System Properties page for restore points and disk usage.

## What does it do?

It turns System Restore on or off per drive and creates restore points. It does not host Settings pages. control.exe may still open other System Properties tabs.

## Why is it running?

You opened System Protection, ran rstrui-related UI, or a repair guide launched this exe. It should exit when you close the tab.

## Is it safe?

Usually safe

System32 SystemPropertiesProtection.exe is Microsoft. A Protection exe in Downloads is not System Restore.

A legitimate copy normally runs from:

`C:\Windows\System32\SystemPropertiesProtection.exe`

- System Protection / restore point UI
- Not SystemSettings.exe
- Sibling tabs use other SystemProperties\*.exe hosts

## Can I end it?

Closes the tab

Ending this process closes System Protection. A restore point that already started may still finish. Settings stays open if you had it open.

## Can I remove it?

No

Do not delete SystemPropertiesProtection.exe. Turn System Restore off from this page if you want fewer snapshots. That is not a Settings uninstall.

## Should it start with Windows?

On demand. It should not auto-start.

## Normal resource behavior

These are contextual labels, not universal averages.

- **CPU**: Rises while a restore point is created

  **Memory**: Small

**Disk**: Shadow copies for restore points

  **Network**: None

## Troubleshooting

Diagnose before you change anything destructive.

### Create a restore point from this page, not from a random tool

SystemSettings.exe Recovery is a different surface. This host is System Protection.

### Do not replace the exe

Servicing owns System32.
