# WMIRegistrationService.exe

Application Process: Intel Corporation

Also called wmiregistrationservice, intel me wmi, intel wmi registration

Intel Corporation, Application

Intel Management Engine WMI registration helper. It is a vendor process that registers ME classes with WMI. It is not Microsoft WMI core and it is not WmiPrvSE.exe.

## What you need to know

This is Intel ME WMI registration, not wmiprvse.

WMIRegistrationService.exe is an Intel Management Engine helper that registers ME WMI classes. Microsoft WMI still answers queries in WmiPrvSE.exe. Ending this helper does not stop Winmgmt. It can leave Intel ME tooling half-registered until the ME package repairs.

- **Safe?**: Yes, under Intel ME

**Is it WmiPrvSE?**: No. This is Intel ME registration

**Can I uninstall it?**: Only with the Intel ME package

Feex says

If I see WMIRegistrationService under Program Files (x86)\Intel, I treat it as ME support, not as Windows Provider Host. I would not reset the WMI repository to "remove Intel."

## What is WMIRegistrationService.exe?

WMIRegistrationService.exe is Intel ME WMI registration, not WmiPrvSE.exe. It lives under Program Files (x86)\Intel on a typical ME install. Microsoft WMI core does not ship this filename.

## What does it do?

It registers or refreshes Management Engine classes so tools can query ME through WMI. It does not host Windows CIM providers and it does not draw a pairing wizard.

## Why is it running?

Intel ME / LMS / DSA components are installed. A laptop with vPro or a consumer ME stack often keeps this helper. A PC with no Intel ME package should not show a Microsoft copy of this name in System32.

## Is it safe?

Usually safe when Intel signed

An Intel-signed helper under Program Files (x86)\Intel is ME WMI registration. A WMIRegistrationService.exe in Temp is not. This is still not wmiprvse.

A legitimate copy normally runs from:

`C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\WMIRegistrationService.exe`

- Publisher is Intel, not Microsoft WMI core
- Exact subfolder can be UNS or ME Components
- Not System32\wbem\WmiPrvSE.exe

## Can I end it?

ME WMI classes can go stale

Ending the helper stops that registration pass. WmiPrvSE keeps serving other providers. Intel tools may complain until the ME package starts the helper again.

## Can I remove it?

Only with Intel ME software

Do not delete this exe from Program Files. Uninstall or repair Intel Management Engine / Driver & Support Assistant if you want the helper gone. Do not delete WmiPrvSE to "remove Intel."

## Should it start with Windows?

The Intel ME package can start it at logon or from a service. That is vendor install, not a Windows Startup Apps default.

## Normal resource behavior

These are contextual labels, not universal averages.

- **CPU**: Short spike while it registers classes

  **Memory**: Small

  **Disk**: Low

**Network**: None required for local registration

## Common problems

### Filename mills call any WMI string malware

Path and Intel signature decide this one. WmiPrvSE in wbem is Windows. This helper is ME.

### ME tools fail after someone deleted the helper

Repair the Intel ME driver package. A WMI repository reset does not put this file back.

## Troubleshooting

Diagnose before you change anything destructive.

### Repair Intel ME from Intel or the PC vendor

Driver & Support Assistant or the ME installer. That is the supported path. Do not copy a random WMIRegistrationService.exe into wbem.

### Confirm you are not looking at WmiPrvSE

Open file location. Program Files (x86)\Intel is this article. System32\wbem\WmiPrvSE.exe is Provider Host.
