# AIMP

Application: Artem Izmaylov

Also called aimp player

Artem Izmaylov, System

A skinnable local music player common on Foxhole PCs. The process is AIMP.exe. It is not foobar2000.

## What you need to know

AIMP is a skinned local player. foobar2000 is the plainer configurable cousin.

AIMP.exe plays files you already have and invites skins, playlists, and a last.fm-style stack. It is not a streaming store and not Peter Pawlowski’s player.

- **What is it?**: A skinnable local music player

**Is it foobar2000?**: No. Different author and skin story

**Where to get it?**: aimp.ru, not a codec-pack bundle

Feex says

If a Foxhole PC shows AIMP.exe and a loud skin, that is a local player someone chose. I would not treat it as Spotify, and I would not swap it for foobar2000 just because a list ranked columns higher.

## What is AIMP?

AIMP is Artem Izmaylov’s Windows music player. The process is AIMP.exe. Skins are part of the product identity.

## If you have never used it

If you want a local player that looks like a custom skin instead of a spreadsheet, this is AIMP. Download it from aimp.ru. Add a music folder. It is not foobar2000, not Spotify, and not a reason to install a codec pack beside it.

## What is it used for?

**Skinned playback**

Play local files with a skin the author and community ship. foobar2000 can look almost empty by default. AIMP usually does not.

**Playlists and library**

Build playlists from folders you already own. There is no Apple or Spotify catalog behind the window.

**Internet radio**

Optional station lists. That is still AIMP.exe, not a subscription locker.

## Who is it for?

- People who want a local player with skins
- Foxhole PCs that already have AIMP in Startup or the tray
- Users who should ignore AIMP plus codec pack bundles

## Current status

AIMP (2006) is a current local music player from Artem Izmaylov. The vendor still points Windows users at https://www.aimp.ru/.

## How old is it?

AIMP appeared in 2006 in the same local-player generation as late Winamp and early foobar2000. It is not a 2020s streaming startup. Skin packs from old download portals are the junk to avoid.

## Versions

## System requirements

Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.

### Minimum

| Operating system | A current supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 release, per the vendor |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| RAM | Light for playback. Visualizations raise it |

## Resource profile

- **CPU demand**: Visualizations and DSP

**Disk demand**: Library cache plus your files

## Installed processes

These executables belong to this product when it is installed.

| AIMP.exe | Main Windows executable |
| -------- | ----------------------- |

## Startup components

AIMP can sit in the tray and start with Windows from its own options. Turn that off if you only want it when you open a file.

## File locations

| Typical install | C:\Program Files\AIMP\\ |
| --------------- | ----------------------- |

## File formats

MP3, FLAC, WAV, other formats the player lists

## Common problems

### Bundled extras on unofficial hosts

The author hosts the installer on aimp.ru. Portal bundles are the usual toolbar story.

### Skin broke the UI

Switch back to a default skin in AIMP before you reinstall Windows.

## Getting unstuck

### Install from aimp.ru

The official English and Russian pages both belong to the author. A full codec mirror is the wrong file.

### Disable tray startup if AIMP.exe is always present

AIMP options control the tray. That is not a Windows service.

### Reset the skin before blaming output

A broken skin can hide controls. Default skin first, then check the output device.

## Alternatives

foobar2000 if you want components over skins. MusicBee for tag-heavy libraries. Spotify if you do not have local files.
