## What is CapCut?

CapCut is a short-form video editor. The Windows executable is CapCut.exe.

## If you have never used it

CapCut is ByteDance's editor that started on phones and now has a Windows app. CapCut.exe is the process. It is not Premiere. It is built for short-form templates. Download from capcut.com, not a random CapCut.exe host.

**Template edits**

Captions and effects aimed at short clips. Premiere is long-form timeline work.

**Phone project sync**

An account can move a phone draft to Windows. Premiere does not do that.

**Export for social**

Quick 9:16 exports. Media Encoder is Adobe's queue, not this.

- People who do not want Premiere
- Anyone who installed CapCut thinking it was Premiere

## Current status

CapCut (2020) is a current short-form video editor from ByteDance. The vendor still points Windows users at https://www.capcut.com/.

## How old is it?

CapCut launched around 2020 on phones. The Windows desktop app followed. Premiere Pro is a 2003 NLE. They are not the same job. Current CapCut is the ByteDance desktop wrapper.

Read the current CapCut plan terms. Premiere does not use that paywall.

The CapCut AppData or Program Files folder is the app. Premiere is Adobe.

### Install from capcut.com

Avoid random CapCut.exe hosts.

### Sign in if a cloud draft is missing

Phone projects need the same account. This is not a Premiere cache.

## Alternatives

Premiere, Shotcut, and Filmora overlap. Premiere does not replace a CapCut phone draft.
