## What is Clip Studio Paint?

Clip Studio Paint is a drawing app for comics, manga, and illustration. The Windows executable is CLIPStudioPaint.exe.

Clip Studio Paint is Celsys's comics and illustration app. It used to be Manga Studio. CLIPStudioPaint.exe is the process. It is not Photoshop. Download from clipstudio.net. PRO and EX are the SKUs people mean.

## What is it used for?

**Comic pages**

Panels, balloons, and screentones. Photoshop can draw. This app is built for pages.

**Illustration**

Pens and brushes. Krita overlaps. Photoshop is the general pixel editor.

**Animation EX**

EX adds a longer animation timeline. After Effects is still compositing.

Clip Studio Paint (2012) is a current comics and illustration from Celsys. The vendor still points Windows users at https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/.

## How old is it?

Celsys shipped Manga Studio, then rebranded to Clip Studio Paint around 2012 on Windows. It is younger than Photoshop (1990). Current Clip Studio Paint is still the comics-first app, not Adobe.

### Sign in to Clip Studio

The launcher and the paint exe are a pair. Repair from Celsys if the license vanishes.

## Alternatives

Krita, Photoshop, and Procreate on other platforms overlap. Photoshop does not replace a .clip comic page.
