# GoodSync

Application: Siber Systems

Also called good sync, siber goodsync

Siber Systems, Productivity

A paid folder sync and backup tool that can target local disks and clouds. The process is GoodSync.exe. It is not Dropbox.

## What you need to know

GoodSync runs jobs. Dropbox is a vendor folder client.

GoodSync.exe copies between sides you configure, including local disks. Dropbox.exe only owns a Dropbox account. Using Dropbox as a GoodSync target still leaves two products.

- **What is it?**: Folder sync and backup

**Still current?**: Yes, see Current status

**Official download?**: Use the vendor link in this article

Feex says

If GoodSync.exe is comparing two folders, that is a job, not Dropbox. I would not unlink Dropbox to stop a USB backup.

## What is GoodSync?

GoodSync is Siber Systems' sync and backup app. GoodSync.exe runs jobs you define. Dropbox is a hosted folder. GoodSync can use Dropbox as one of many destinations. It is not Dropbox itself.

## If you have never used it

If you want scheduled two-way sync between disks, NAS, or several clouds you already pay for, this is GoodSync, not Dropbox. Buy or trial it from goodsync.com. You build jobs. Dropbox.exe is a single-vendor cloud client. GoodSync can copy to a local USB disk without any Dropbox account.

## What is it used for?

**Two-way folder jobs**

Left and right sides you pick. Dropbox only syncs the Dropbox namespace unless you add it as a job target.

**Local disk and NAS backup**

USB and UNC paths. That job does not need a Dropbox account.

**Cloud connectors GoodSync lists**

Optional S3, SFTP, and vendor clouds as endpoints. The engine is still GoodSync.exe.

## Who is it for?

- People who think in jobs, not one magic folder
- Users backing up to a local disk
- Anyone who should not install Dropbox expecting GoodSync's job runner

## Current status

Actively developed. This article is the Windows desktop app, not GoodSync2Go alone.

## How old is it?

Siber Systems shipped GoodSync in the late 1990s (TSV year 1998). Dropbox launched in 2008 as a simpler one-folder cloud. GoodSync is the older job-based tool. It is not a Dropbox competitor that hosts your mailbox.

## System requirements

Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.

### Minimum

| Operating system | A current supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 release, per the vendor |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| RAM | Enough for Windows plus this app. Heavy projects want more. |

## Resource profile

- **CPU demand**: Follows what you open inside the app

**RAM demand**: Follows documents, tabs, or libraries

## Installed processes

These executables belong to this product when it is installed.

| GoodSync.exe | Job runner and UI |
| ---------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| GoodSync-v10.exe | Alternate image name on some builds |

## Startup components

GoodSync can install a runner at logon for scheduled jobs. That is not Dropbox.

## File locations

| Typical install | C:\Program Files\Siber Systems\GoodSync\GoodSync.exe |
| --------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |

## File formats

folders you pair in a job

## Common problems

### License nag after the trial

Siber Systems sells seats. That is not a Dropbox Plus plan.

### A job fights Dropbox on the same tree

Do not let GoodSync and Dropbox both write the same files. Pick one writer.

## Getting unstuck

### Read the job log in GoodSync before you blame Windows

A locked file or a filter is a job setting. Dropbox's activity pane is a different client.

### Install from goodsync.com

A "GoodSync crack" is malware. dropbox.com/install is the sibling people swap.

### If you only needed one cloud folder, use that vendor's client

GoodSync is extra machinery. Dropbox alone is enough for a single Dropbox tree.

## Alternatives

Dropbox, FreeFileSync, and Windows File History overlap. Dropbox is the hosted sibling this article is not.

Large jobs want disk and a stable path. A GPU does not help a file compare.
