# Microsoft To Do

Application: Microsoft Corporation

Also called to do, microsoft to-do, wunderlist

Microsoft Corporation, Productivity

Microsoft's task list that replaced Wunderlist. The process is Todo.exe. It is not Todoist.

## What you need to know

To Do is Todo.exe and a Microsoft account. Todoist is Doist.

Microsoft To Do replaced Wunderlist. Todoist is a different vendor. Installing both leaves two task databases.

- **What is it?**: Task list

**Still current?**: Yes, see Current status

Feex says

If Todo.exe is the list Windows opened, that is Microsoft To Do, not Todoist. I would not hunt for Todoist projects inside a Microsoft account.

## What is Microsoft To Do?

Microsoft To Do is the Microsoft task app. Todo.exe is the Windows process. Todoist is Todoist.exe. Outlook Tasks can sync into To Do. That is still not Todoist.

## If you have never used it

If a Microsoft account offered a task list after Wunderlist shut down, this is Microsoft To Do, not Todoist. Open it from the Store or to-do.office.com. Todoist.exe is Doist's app and a different login. Todo.exe is this Microsoft list. They do not share projects.

## What is it used for?

**Lists and My Day**

Microsoft's daily list. Todoist uses projects and Karma instead.

**Outlook task sync**

Work tasks from Exchange can appear here. Todoist needs a separate integration.

**Shared lists with a Microsoft account**

Family grocery lists on a Microsoft login. A Todoist share is a Doist workspace.

## Who is it for?

- People who moved from Wunderlist
- Users already in a Microsoft account
- Anyone who should not sign into Todoist looking for My Day

## Current status

Actively developed. This article is the Windows To Do app, not the Planner board.

## How old is it?

Microsoft bought Wunderlist in 2015, launched To Do in 2017, and shut Wunderlist in 2020. Todoist has been Doist's product since 2012. A "Wunderlist" shortcut on an old PC is history.

## System requirements

Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.

### Minimum

| Operating system | A current supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 release, per the vendor |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| RAM | Enough for Windows plus this app. Heavy projects want more. |

## Resource profile

- **CPU demand**: Follows what you open inside the app

**RAM demand**: Follows documents, tabs, or libraries

## Installed processes

These executables belong to this product when it is installed.

| Todo.exe | Microsoft To Do |
| -------- | --------------- |

## Startup components

To Do can start with Windows from Startup apps. That is Todo.exe, not Todoist.exe.

## File locations

| Typical install | C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Todos\_\*\\ |
| --------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |

## File formats

To Do tasks (cloud)

## Common problems

### Wunderlist leftover

Wunderlist is gone. Import happened years ago. A Wunderlist exe is stale.

### Tasks missing from Outlook

To Do and classic Outlook tasks can sync. Todoist will not show those unless you connected it on purpose.

## Getting unstuck

### Sign in with the Microsoft account, not a Todoist email

to-do.office.com is this product. todoist.com is the sibling.

### Install from the Microsoft Store or to-do.office.com

A "Microsoft To Do desktop" search ad is the wrong file.

### If you needed Todoist filters, use Todoist

My Day will not become a Todoist filter. That is the sibling-swap test.

## Alternatives

Todoist, Planner, and a paper list overlap. Todoist is the sibling this article is not.
