# Speccy

Application: Gen

Also called piriform speccy, speccy64

Gen, System

A pretty hardware inventory from Piriform, now Gen. The 64-bit process is Speccy64.exe. It is less deep than HWiNFO.

## What you need to know

Speccy is a pretty inventory. HWiNFO is the deep one.

Piriform Speccy, now under Gen, shows a friendly hardware summary. Get it from ccleaner.com/speccy. It is less deep than HWiNFO and it is not CCleaner's cleaner window.

- **What is it?**: A pretty hardware inventory

**Same as HWiNFO?**: No. HWiNFO is deeper

**Who publishes it?**: Gen. It started as Piriform

Feex says

If you only need a pretty summary, Speccy is fine. If the question is a weird voltage, I would open HWiNFO instead. Neither one is a Feex sensor.

## What is Speccy?

Speccy is a friendly inventory. Speccy64.exe shows summaries for CPU, RAM, and disks. HWiNFO is the deep sensor tool. Speccy does not add Feex sensors.

## If you have never used it

If you want a simple picture of the PC, Speccy is Piriform's inventory, now under Gen next to CCleaner. Download it from ccleaner.com/speccy. It is prettier and thinner than HWiNFO. It is not HWiNFO, not CPU-Z, and not a driver.

## What is it used for?

**Show a newcomer what is inside the PC**

The summary page is the point. HWiNFO's full tree is more than most people want on day one.

**Read a temperature at a glance**

A few temps appear here. HWiNFO sensors-only is the deeper tray if you need every rail.

**Save a snapshot for a forum post**

File > Save. A Speccy snapshot is not a CCleaner clean and not an HWiNFO log.

## Who is it for?

- People who find HWiNFO's report too large
- Users already in the CCleaner family of apps
- Anyone who should still use HWiNFO for a deep sensor hunt

## Current status

Speccy (2009) is a current hardware inventory from Gen. The vendor still points Windows users at https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy.

## How old is it?

Speccy launched in 2009. HWiNFO is older (1999) and still deeper. Gen does not update Speccy as often as REALiX updates HWiNFO. Treat it as a living but quieter product, not a 2024 startup.

## Versions

## System requirements

Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.

### Minimum

| Operating system | Windows 10 or Windows 11, per the current Speccy download on ccleaner.com |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| RAM | Enough for Windows plus this app. Heavy projects want more. |

## Resource profile

- **CPU demand**: Low after the first scan

**RAM demand**: Smaller than a full HWiNFO report

## Installed processes

These executables belong to this product when it is installed.

| Speccy64.exe | Inventory window |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------- |
| Speccy.exe | 32-bit build name on some installs |

## Startup components

Speccy should not start with Windows. Close it after the snapshot.

## File locations

| Typical install | C:\Program Files\Speccy\\ |
| --------------- | ------------------------- |

## File formats

TXT and XML snapshots

## Common problems

### Stale readings on a new CPU

Speccy updates slowly next to HWiNFO. Switch to HWiNFO if a new chip looks unknown.

### Bundled offers on some CCleaner-family setups

Read the checkboxes. That is a Gen installer habit, not an HWiNFO download.

## Getting unstuck

### Download from ccleaner.com/speccy

A random Speccy.exe on a forum is not Gen. HWiNFO is at hwinfo.com if you wanted the deep tool.

### If a new GPU is missing, try HWiNFO

Speccy's database lags. That is this product, not a broken CPU-Z.

### Do not use Speccy as a cleaner

CCleaner is the cleaner in this family. Speccy only reports.

## Alternatives

HWiNFO for depth. CPU-Z and GPU-Z for single devices. Task Manager for live use.
