# TeamSpeak

Application: TeamSpeak Systems

Also called teamspeak 3, ts3, ts client

TeamSpeak Systems, Games

An older gamer voice client still used by some communities. The 64-bit Windows 3.x client is ts3client_win64.exe.

## What you need to know

TeamSpeak is a voice client. It is not Discord.

ts3client_win64.exe is the common Windows 3.x client. Discord is a different vendor. Mumble is an open-source voice cousin.

- **What is it?**: Voice chat

**Still current?**: Yes, see Current status

Feex says

If ts3client_win64.exe is the voice process, I would treat it as TeamSpeak 3, not Discord. Quitting Discord.exe does not drop this server.

## What is TeamSpeak?

TeamSpeak is a voice client you point at a TeamSpeak server. The Windows 3.x 64-bit executable is ts3client_win64.exe.

## If you have never used it

If a clan said get on TeamSpeak, this is TeamSpeak Systems voice, not Discord. The common Windows 64-bit 3.x process is ts3client_win64.exe. Download it from teamspeak.com/downloads. TeamSpeak 6 is a newer client on the same site. Discord.exe is a different product.

## What is it used for?

**Push-to-talk on a community server**

You join a hostname and port. Discord servers are a different graph.

**Channel tree permissions**

Server admins set channels and talk power. That is TeamSpeak, not a Discord role screen.

**Overlays some communities still enable**

Optional overlays. They are a TeamSpeak feature, not a GPU driver.

## Who is it for?

- Clans that never moved off a TeamSpeak server
- Users comparing TS3 with the newer TeamSpeak client
- Anyone who was told Discord when the bookmark still says TS

## Current status

TeamSpeak (2001) is a current voice chat from TeamSpeak Systems. The vendor still points Windows users at https://www.teamspeak.com/downloads.

## How old is it?

TeamSpeak started in 2001 as a gamer voice client. TeamSpeak 3 defined a long era of community servers. Discord (2015) took much of that audience. TS3 is old and still installed. TS6 is the newer client line.

## System requirements

Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.

### Minimum

| Operating system | A current supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 release, per the vendor |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| RAM | Enough for Windows plus this app. Heavy projects want more. |

## Resource profile

- **CPU demand**: Follows what you open inside the app

**RAM demand**: Follows documents, tabs, or libraries

## Installed processes

These executables belong to this product when it is installed.

| ts3client_win64.exe | Main Windows executable |
| ------------------- | ----------------------- |

## Startup components

TeamSpeak can start with Windows from its own setting so you land in the last server.

## File locations

| Typical install | C:\Program Files\TeamSpeak 3 Client\\ |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------- |

## File formats

TS3 bookmarks

## Common problems

### Wrong client generation

A TS3 bookmark may not open the same way in TeamSpeak 6. Use the client the server admin named.

### People mute Discord to fix TeamSpeak echo

Wrong app. Check TeamSpeak capture and Windows Audio.

## Getting unstuck

### Install from teamspeak.com/downloads

A TeamSpeak crack or portable from a forum is junk. The vendor lists TS3 and newer clients.

### Confirm the server address the admin sent

support.teamspeak.com covers bookmarks and permissions. Discord Support will not.

### Test push-to-talk in TeamSpeak settings

A stuck key is a TeamSpeak bind, not a broken keyboard by itself.

## Alternatives

Discord if the community already moved. Mumble if they want an open-source low-latency client. In-game voice is a third option.
