Raptor Lake
Also called raptor lake, 13th gen, raptor lake refresh
Intel 13th-generation Core architecture. Desktop parts stayed on LGA1700 and grew the hybrid core counts.
What you need to know
Raptor Lake is 13th-gen Core on the same desktop socket.
Desktop Raptor Lake grew hybrid core counts and stayed on LGA1700. A 12th-gen board can take one only when the vendor list and BIOS say so.
- Same socket as 12th gen?
- Yes, LGA1700
- Drop-in?
- Only with a listed BIOS
- Refresh?
- 14th gen stayed on this platform
What Raptor Lake is
Raptor Lake is Intel's 13th-generation Core line. Desktop parts kept the hybrid P-core and E-core mix and the LGA1700 socket. A later refresh used 14th-gen branding on the same platform.
What it means on a PC
You get more E-cores on many SKUs than the 12th-gen part with the same i7 or i5 name. That helps threaded work. It does not make every game faster if the GPU is the limit.
Upgrade notes
Moving from Alder Lake to Raptor Lake on the same board is a BIOS and list problem first. Power limits and cooler capacity still matter.
- Check the motherboard CPU list
- Update BIOS
- Check VRM and cooler headroom
