Also called authy desktop, twilio authy

What you need to know

Twilio ended Authy Desktop on 19 March 2024. Authy Desktop.exe is leftover. Microsoft Authenticator is a different phone product. Bitwarden TOTP is yet another vault feature.
- What is it?

- Desktop still OK?
- No. EOL 19 March 2024
- Same as Microsoft Authenticator?
- No. Different vendor
What is Authy?
Authy is Twilio's authenticator. The Windows desktop app is retired. Tokens live in the phone app Twilio still ships.
If you have never used it
If you still have Authy Desktop.exe, Twilio ended that Windows app. End of life was 19 March 2024. The phone Authy app is what Twilio still supports. Do not hunt a fresh desktop installer as a daily 2FA client. Microsoft Authenticator is a different vendor and is also a phone app. This is not a password manager.
What is it used for?
The supported client is mobile. Microsoft Authenticator is a different phone app.
Authy Desktop.exe may still be on disk. Twilio says it is end of life and has logged desktop users out.
Twilio noted the app lacked export. Moving tokens means re-adding them on the phone or another authenticator.
Who is it for?
- People whose 2FA still says Authy on a phone
- Users with a dead Authy Desktop window after 2024
- Anyone who should not install Microsoft Authenticator expecting an Authy backup

Installed processes
These executables belong to this product when it is installed.
| Authy Desktop.exe | Retired Windows desktop app |

Startup components
A leftover desktop shortcut at logon will only fail. Remove it.
File locations
| Typical install | C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\Authy Desktop\ |
|---|
Common problems
Desktop login rejected
Expected after EOL. Twilio invalidated desktop devices. Use the phone app.
No export button
You re-add tokens at each site. That is Twilio's documented gap, not a Windows file you can copy safely.
Getting unstuck
Use the Authy phone app, not a new desktop build from a forum
Twilio's EOL notes are on help.twilio.com. A "Authy Desktop 2026" host is not a supported path.
Re-add TOTP at each site if you are leaving Authy
Microsoft Authenticator will not receive an official Authy desktop export.
Uninstall leftover Authy Desktop.exe if it only errors
Settings > Apps. The phone app is the remaining product.
Alternatives
Microsoft Authenticator or another phone authenticator. Bitwarden if you store TOTP in that vault. Okta Verify if work assigned that app.
