Comodo Antivirus

ApplicationXcitium

Also called comodo internet security, xcitium, cmdagent

XcitiumSecurity

A firewall-heavy suite. Xcitium is the current company name. The agent is cmdagent.exe. It is not Windows Security.

What you need to know

cmdagent.exe is Comodo / Xcitium. The popups are the firewall and HIPS.

Comodo is a firewall-heavy suite. Xcitium is the current company name. It should take the antivirus slot. Two live engines with Defender is a fight. Two firewalls is the other fight. Sandboxie Plus is a different sandbox.

What is it?
Firewall-heavy suite. Xcitium is the company
Why the popups?
HIPS and firewall. That is the product
Plus Defender?
No. One live engine
Feex says
If every new program pops a Comodo allow box, that is HIPS, not a virus named cmdagent.exe. I would not leave Defender live next to it, and I would not run Sandboxie Plus as a second unexplained sandbox unless you meant to.

What is Comodo Antivirus?

Comodo Antivirus / Internet Security is a firewall-heavy suite now under Xcitium. cmdagent.exe is a usual agent.

If you have never used it

If the suite is asking about every new exe, this is Comodo, not Defender. Download it from comodo.com. Xcitium is the current company name. cmdagent.exe is the agent. The firewall and HIPS popups are the product. The suite should take the antivirus slot. cmdagent.exe plus live MsMpEng.exe is the two-engine fight. Two firewalls with Windows Firewall is the other fight.

What is it used for?

Resident AV plus HIPS

Unknown exes get sandbox or allow prompts. That is Comodo, not Windows SmartScreen alone.

Comodo Firewall

The suite firewall can replace or fight Windows Firewall. Pick an owner.

Containment / sandbox extras

Auto-contain is a Comodo idea. Sandboxie Plus is a different sandbox product.

Who is it for?

  • People who want popup-heavy HIPS
  • Users who see Xcitium and Comodo on the same page
  • Anyone with cmdagent.exe next to live Defender

Current status

Still offered. Branding may say Comodo or Xcitium. This article is the Windows consumer suite.

How old is it?

Comodo Internet Security is a 2000s firewall-heavy suite. The company now also says Xcitium. Current home pages still use Comodo URLs. A 2009 CIS screenshot is the same family.

Versions

Major channels first. Exact build numbers are not all verified here.

Comodo Antivirus
Comodo Internet Security
Xcitium enterprise (other line)

System requirements

Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.

Minimum

Minimum system requirements
Operating system Windows 10 or Windows 11, per current Comodo home pages
RAM A 2 GB class minimum appears on older CIS pages. 4 GB is the comfortable class

Resource profile

CPU demand
HIPS plus scans
RAM demand
Several Comodo processes at idle

Installed processes

These executables belong to this product when it is installed.

Installed processes
cmdagent.exe Comodo / Xcitium agent
cis.exe Comodo Internet Security UI on many installs

Startup components

cmdagent.exe starts with Windows while the suite is installed.

File locations

Common Comodo Antivirus locations
Typical install C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\

Common problems

cmdagent.exe plus live Defender

The suite should own realtime. If Defender still scans, both engines are live.

HIPS popup fatigue

People click Allow on everything. That is a Comodo training problem, not a Windows reinstall.

Getting unstuck

Install from the Comodo home antivirus page

help.comodo.com is support. A "Xcitium enterprise sensor" is the work line, not this home SKU.

Check Windows Security for Comodo or Xcitium

The owner should change after a successful register.

If you only wanted Windows Firewall, uninstall the suite

Leaving HIPS plus Defender plus Windows Firewall is three policies.

Alternatives

Windows Security if you want the in-box firewall and AV. ZoneAlarm if you wanted that older firewall brand. Sandboxie Plus if you wanted an app sandbox without Comodo HIPS.
