What is LibreWolf?
LibreWolf is a community-maintained Firefox fork. The Windows executable is librewolf.exe.
If you have never used it
If you want Firefox with stricter out-of-the-box defaults, this is LibreWolf. It is not mozilla.org Firefox and it is not LibreOffice. Download it from librewolf.net/installation/windows. The process is librewolf.exe. Some bank sites complain about the hardening. firefox.exe is stock Firefox. LibreOffice writes documents.
What is it used for?
Same engine family as Firefox. Add-ons come from addons.mozilla.org, not the Chrome Web Store.
Tighter cookies and fingerprint resistance. This is why some sites ask you to use Firefox.
Sync is not the Firefox account product. That is a LibreWolf choice.
Who is it for?
- People who want Firefox without Mozilla defaults
- Users who already keep a LibreWolf profile
- Anyone who searched LibreWolf and landed on LibreOffice
Current status
LibreWolf (2020) is a current web browser from LibreWolf community. The vendor still points Windows users at https://librewolf.net/installation/windows/.
How old is it?
LibreWolf started in 2020 as a community Firefox fork. It is much newer than Firefox 1.0. Current builds still follow the Firefox train. A 2012 IceCat guide is a cousin story, not this installer.

Common problems
Site logins fail after hardening
ResistFingerprinting and strict cookies break some banks. Relax per-site settings before you reinstall Windows.
Name collision with LibreOffice
Uninstalling LibreOffice does nothing to librewolf.exe.
Getting unstuck
Open about:support inside LibreWolf
It names the profile and build. Stock Firefox about:support is a different folder.
Read the FAQ before fixing search
LibreWolf changes default search and telemetry on purpose. That is not a hijack by itself.
Install from librewolf.net
A LibreWolf plus codecs bundle on a filename site is junk.
Alternatives
Stock Firefox if you want Mozilla sync. Tor Browser if you need the Tor network. LibreOffice does not browse the web.
