What is Mullvad Browser?
Mullvad Browser is a Firefox-based privacy browser built with the Tor Project. It does not start tor.exe. The window process is firefox.exe in the Mullvad Browser folder.
If you have never used it
If you want Tor Browser hardening without onion routing, this is Mullvad Browser. It is not Tor Browser and it is not the Mullvad VPN app. Download it from mullvad.net/en/download/browser. Traffic does not go over Tor. Pair it with a VPN if that is the plan. The process is still firefox.exe.
What is it used for?
Letterboxing and Tor Browser-style defaults without a Tor circuit.
Mullvad documents this as a browser to use with a trustworthy VPN. The VPN is a separate app.
.onion sites do not work here the way they do in Tor Browser. That is the product split.
Who is it for?
- People who want Tor Browser defenses without Tor
- Mullvad VPN users who were pointed at this browser
- Anyone who saw firefox.exe and assumed stock Firefox or Tor Browser

Common problems
People expect .onion to open
This browser has no Tor client. Use Tor Browser for onion sites.
VPN app mixed up with the browser
Mullvad VPN is a separate install. Quitting the VPN does not close this firefox.exe.
Getting unstuck
Check the folder name for Mullvad Browser
Tor Browser and Mozilla Firefox also use firefox.exe. Open file location.
Verify the download from mullvad.net
Mullvad documents signature checks. A forum zip is the wrong file.
Do not install Tor on top of this folder
Adding tor.exe by hand is not the supported setup. Use Tor Browser if you need Tor.
Alternatives
Tor Browser if you need the Tor network. Stock Firefox if you want a normal Gecko browser. The Mullvad VPN app is not a browser.

Related hardware
A modest 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC is enough. Delay usually comes from a VPN path, not a missing GPU.
