Sysinternals Suite
Also called sysinternals, sysinternals zip, winternals
A bundle of Process Explorer, Autoruns, and friends. Mark Russinovich tools Microsoft bought. It is not a single exe.
What you need to know
Sysinternals Suite is a zip of many tools. It is not a single exe.
Microsoft hosts Sysinternals Suite as a bundle Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell built. Unpack the zip. Run procexp64.exe, Procmon64.exe, or Autoruns64.exe. There is no one suite process.
- What is it?
- A zip of Sysinternals tools
- One exe?
- No. You launch each tool by name
- Who made it?
- Russinovich / Cogswell. Microsoft hosts it now
What is Sysinternals Suite?
Sysinternals Suite is a folder of utilities. There is no Sysinternals.exe. This wiki also has pages for Process Explorer, Process Monitor, and Autoruns as separate products. The suite is how you fetch them together.
If you have never used it
If someone said "install Sysinternals", they mean the Microsoft zip of many tools, not one program. Download Sysinternals Suite from Microsoft Learn and unpack it. Inside you get Process Explorer, Process Monitor, Autoruns, TCPView, and more. It is not a single exe and not Task Manager.
What is it used for?
One zip. You still launch procexp64.exe or Procmon64.exe by name. That is why it is not a single exe.
Microsoft documents live.sysinternals.com. That is still the suite contents, not Task Manager.
The tools are portable. You do not install a suite service.
Who is it for?
- Technicians who want the whole zip
- People who searched Sysinternals and expected one Start tile
- Anyone who should open the member tool pages for how-to
Current status
Sysinternals Suite (1996) is a current admin tool bundle from Microsoft Corporation. The vendor still points Windows users at https://learn.microsoft.com/sysinternals/downloads/sysinternals-suite.
How old is it?
NTInternals / Winternals tools date to 1996. Microsoft acquired Sysinternals in 2006 and still publishes the suite. Process Explorer (1997), Autoruns (2004), and Process Monitor (2006) are members, not the zip name you launch.

System requirements
Values follow the publisher's public guidance. Workload still changes the real need.
Minimum
| Operating system | A current supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 release, per Microsoft Sysinternals |
|---|---|
| RAM | Enough for Windows plus this app. Heavy projects want more. |
Resource profile
- CPU demand
- Follows which tool you launch
- Disk demand
- The zip is small. Procmon logs are not
Installed processes
These executables belong to this product when it is installed.
| procexp64.exe | One tool in the zip, not the suite itself |
|---|---|
| Procmon64.exe | Process Monitor, also in the zip |
| Autoruns64.exe | Autoruns, also in the zip |
Startup components
The suite does not add a Startup entry by itself. Autoruns can show what already starts.

Common problems
People look for Sysinternals.exe
It does not exist. Open the member tool. Task Manager is still taskmgr.exe.
Old Winternals download from a random host
Microsoft Learn is the current source. Pre-2006 Winternals brands on ad sites are junk.
Getting unstuck
Download the suite zip from Microsoft Learn
Individual tool pages also exist. This article is the bundle, not Process Explorer's how-to.
Unblock the zip (Properties > Unblock) if Windows refuses to run the exes
That is a downloaded-file mark, not a missing single suite exe.
Use Sysinternals Live if you cannot copy the zip
Microsoft documents that path. It is still many tools, not one.
Alternatives
Download one tool if you only need Process Explorer. Task Manager stays in-box. Third-party process tools are optional.
