Roblox on Windows is the official player. RobloxPlayerBeta.exe runs experiences. Studio is RobloxStudioBeta.exe and is not this article.

If you have never used it

If a kid clicks a Roblox experience on the web, Windows starts the player. Download it from roblox.com/download. Sign in with a Roblox account. RobloxPlayerBeta.exe is the session. Studio is a different install for creators. It is not Minecraft. Minecraft.exe is Mojang’s launcher for Java and Bedrock.

What is it used for?

Play experiences from the site

The browser starts the player. Minecraft worlds do not open here.

Bootstrapper updates

RobloxPlayerLauncher.exe fetches the current player. That is why version numbers move often.

Not Studio

Building places is Studio. Installing the player does not install Studio.

Current status

Roblox (2006) is a current ugc game platform from Roblox Corporation. The vendor still points Windows users at https://www.roblox.com/download.

How old is it?

Roblox dates to 2006 as a UGC platform. The Windows player has been a bootstrapper-plus-player pair for years. It is older than Fortnite and a different product from Minecraft 2009. A 2012 “install Roblox from a third-party exe” ritual is unsafe.

The bootstrapper can fail to finish an update. Official repair is a reinstall from roblox.com/download, not a GPU swap.

Studio vs player mix-up

Creators opened Studio and thought the player was broken. Different shortcuts.

Getting unstuck

The official player is there. A “Roblox executor” is malware bait.

Quit from the Roblox window, then the tray bootstrapper

Closing a browser tab does not always end RobloxPlayerBeta.exe.

Confirm you wanted the player, not Studio

create.roblox.com is Studio. This article is the player.

Alternatives

Minecraft if the world is a Mojang edition. The Roblox website still starts this player. Studio if the job is building.
